There are many grades of leather and this product is NOT what the leather industry would consider premium. The leather used to make this product has been sanded to remove the natural hide grain. This is done to remove imperfections of low grade hides, the result being a harder than natural "hand" (softness) and cracking of the leather as it ages. Premium leather would be unaltered full grain leather which is the most genuine of all leather made from the best grade hides. The sales copy states the leather has been "drum dyed". If this was the case the color would be totally black on the top, bottom and cross section. Viewing the photo this is simply not so. If this product is scratched you will see a lighter color. This simply does not happen with drum dyed leather.
